Why you’ll love this recipe

These simple Keto fries made with Turnip are a great way to include Turnip in your diet. Baked Turnip fries have a similar texture if you are looking for a low-carb alternative to your regular French Fries.
I use Parmesan cheese, paprika, chili powder, and garlic for seasoning, a flavorful combination that adds a unique touch to the fries. Also, if you have picky eaters at home, you could serve these to add more veggies to their menu without them even noticing.

This Turnip Fries recipe comes with a mouth-watering Keto dipping sauce to dip in your fries.

Ingredients & Substitutions

For the Turnip Fries

Turnips—Choose medium-sized or small turnips. Younger turnips are easier to cut into fries and have a sweeter flavor than larger turnips.
Avocado Oil – You can use extra virgin olive oil or refined coconut oil.
Parmesan Cheese
Paprika
Chili Powder – skip for a mild version.
Garlic Powder

For the Dipping Sauce

If you don’t want to make a dipping sauce, you can also use sugar-free ketchup.
Mayonnaise
Sugar-free Ketchup
Dill relish
White Vinegar – You can also use Apple Cider Vinegar.
Ground Black Pepper
Salt

How to make Turnip Fries

Preheat the oven to 425F. Line a sheet pan with parchment paper.

Step 1

Peel the medium turnips, and cut them into 3 by 1/4-inch sticks. In a large bowl, toss the fries in the oil to coat.

Step 2

Put the Parmesan cheese, paprika, chili powder, and garlic powder in a separate bowl and stir to combine. Add the oiled fries to the seasoning mixture and toss to coat evenly. Spread the fries on the prepared baking sheet on a single layer.

Step 3

Bake for 30 minutes or until the fries are brown and crisp around the edges, turning them halfway through for even browning.

Step 4

Meanwhile, make the dipping sauce by placing all the sauce ingredients in a small bowl and stirring until well combined.

Step 5

When the fries are golden brown, remove from the oven and serve immediately with the dipping sauce.

Serving Suggestions

  • Serve the Turnip Fries with the dipping sauce as an appetizer, a game-day snack, or a finger-food option at gatherings.
  • Make with these Baked Turnip Fries; simply add shredded cheddar cheese and return to the oven until the cheese is melted.
  • I love using this mildly spicy turnip fries to make Nacho Fries with Taco Meat. This is one of my favorite ways to enjoy them.
  • As a side dish with these Keto Hot Chicken Tenders

Expert Tips

  • If you find Turnips with greens on them, don’t discard them. Braise the turnip greens in bacon drippings in a cast-iron skillet for a tasty Southern side dish known simply as “greens.”
  • Serve your homemade fries while hot; they have an excellent texture and taste.
  • While the texture is similar and they are very satisfying, don’t expect the same crispiness of traditional fries.
  • Depending on the thickness of the turnip fries, you may have to adjust the cooking time.
  • Add a drizzle of lemon juice before serving to add some acidity.
  • Just like other root veggies, smaller turnips have a greater taste than larger turnips.

Storage and Reheating

How to store leftovers

These easy Turnip Fries are best served and enjoyed immediately, but if you have leftover Turnip Sticks, you can store them in the refrigerator using an airtight container for up to 4 days. Reheat using the oven or the air fryer if you have one.

How to freeze

Leave the Baked Turnip Fries to completely cool before freezing. To reheat, use the oven to prevent them from getting mushy.

Variations

  • Try changing the seasoning mixture for a different flavor combination. Dried herbs, onion powder, cumin, or coriander are great options.
  • Change the dipping sauce. For an easy dip, you can use simple sugar-free Ketchup. If you want something more nutritious, you could use guacamole, pesto, or this low-carb Dill Pickle Dip.
  • Use another keto-friendly root vegetable such as carrots, celeriac, or parsnips.
