Food is a powerful entity that can both unite and divide people. It’s a universal language that everyone around the world speaks. There is so much variety, and everyone has their preferences and acquired tastes. Some opinions can be fundamentally flawed and incorrect on multiple levels. If you don’t like these 11 controversial foods, be ready to receive some criticism.

Believe it or not, Americans certainly love their buttery corn. The options are endless, from corn sodas to corn chips to corn dogs to sweet corn. One young chap even rose to fame due to his hit video where he confesses his undying love for corn, getting the holy title of ‘The Corn Kid.’

2. Cupcake Frosting

Freshly baked, moist cupcakes with thick, sugary frosting and a gooey chocolate ganache filling in the center sounds perfect, doesn’t it? Well, not everyone agrees. While cupcakes are almost a staple in the American diet, not everyone enjoys them. But, with it being insanely popular, you will have to pretend to enjoy it.

Whether having your favorite hamburger or enjoying classic fried chicken, you’ll always get served soda to wash down the oily goodness. Carbonated drinks are so common that pairing your meals with some form of the drink has become a norm. This is precisely why not liking them will most certainly drive everyone around you crazy.

4. Avocados

The main ingredient of the famously loved dip guacamole, the king of all kings, the avocado, needs no introduction. Avocados are so versatile that you can enjoy them for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or even a quick snack. However, not everyone is a fan, with some people even going to the extent of calling them atrocious. Are you getting your pitchforks ready, or should I?

5. Ranch

Dun dun dun! Condiments can be added to your salads, fries, eggs, or anything, but that doesn’t mean they should be, especially not ranch. You’ll find ranch in every household with a mixture of buttermilk, mayonnaise, minced green onions, and garlic powder. But, if you’re someone who isn’t a fan, don’t worry, your secrets are safe with me.

While I was willing to let some of these items slide, I can’t imagine how one can dislike coffee. If you’re a coffee addict who needs to inject caffeine directly into your veins before starting your day, then you know what I’m talking about. Coffee comes in all shapes and sizes, but some people don’t appreciate what’s right in front of them.

Chocolate has a well-rounded flavor profile, and mint adds a much-needed sharp kick to bring out some different notes. While this combo is held near and dear by most people across the nation, some despise it. Some even go as far as saying that mint belongs solely in toothpaste and gum. That’s harsh.

8. Reese’s cups

These iconic rich peanut butter cups topped with perfectly tempered chocolate make terrific treats. They’re trendy during Halloween when everyone wants to get their hands on them. But surprisingly, the age-old peanut butter and decadent chocolate combo is lost on them. It’s the perfect mix of sweet and salty, but haters will hate.

9. Sushi

When you think of sushi, the first thing that pops into your mind is raw fish, but sushi isn’t just that. Sushi has the perfect blend of rice, seaweed, veggies, and fish, but you can try cucumber rolls and cooked makis. So, when people claim that they dislike sushi because it’s raw fish, it doesn’t make much sense. It might sound a tad dramatic, but sushi is a movement, so you’re the one who’s missing out.

10. Cucumbers

Generally regarded as tasteless, cucumbers are a staple vegetable frequently found in salads and sandwiches. Disliking cucumbers limits your options for enjoying around 80% of dishes, though this statement may be an exaggeration.

Interestingly, some individuals strongly oppose them, with some describing their taste as “too green,” although the exact meaning of that description is open for interpretation.

11. Cheese

Yup, you read that right; saved the best one for last. When someone doesn’t like cheese, people seem to get personally attacked by it, or they assume you’re lactose intolerant. Some even talk about how cheese looks so good but tastes disgusting. Hate to break it to you, but anti-cheesers exist and are here to stay.
